Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Andrey Rublev 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the final of the Mubadala Tennis World Championship exhibition tournament held in Abu Dhabi to claim the trophy.
Thus getting an “uncharacteristic” revenge from Rublev for his defeat at the ATP Finals in Turin almost a month ago, in the group stage, a defeat that did not allow the Greek champion to reach the semifinals of the event.
Tsitsipas started the final impressively by winning the first 4 games and took the first set in just over half an hour.
In the 2nd set, Tsitsipas showed that he was facing problems from the returns of Rublev, who found easy points from his serve and reached the game with 6-4, tying at 1-1.
Tsitsipas started impressively in the 3rd set, making a break and even coming back from 15/40, making it 1-0. He made it 2-0 on his serve and with a new break he reached 3-0, then easily made it 4-0.
Rublev went down in the 5th game (4-1) but this was not enough to change the balance, allowing Tsitsipas to celebrate in his second participation in the tournament, the title for the first time.
