The mayor of Três Corações (MG), João Roberto de Paiva Gomes (PSD), said that he suspended the burning of fireworks in the municipality at the turn of the year in mourning for the death of Pelé. The King of football was born in the city of Minas Gerais.

“We lost an idol. Três Corações will remain in vigil until the burial [nesta terça-feira]. We are sad, we spent the end of the year doing nothing. There is no weather for fireworks. Let it be clear: Pelé is not dead,” she said.

The politician stated that he intends to place the flag of the municipality of Minas Gerais on Pelé’s coffin.

The city has Casa Pelé, where the King lived before moving to Bauru, and the Terra do Rei Pelé Museum, with a collection of the former player. Inaugurated in 2012, the house was rebuilt based on the memory of Pelé’s mother, Celeste, since there are no photographic records of the time they lived there.

The house has four bedrooms, all small, a kitchen with a wood stove and a wooden bathroom, outside the house.

The former player lived there until he was four years old, and the street was named after the city’s illustrious son: Edson Arantes do Nascimento.

In Santos, at Reveillón, the city government promoted a drone show to honor the former player. At 10 pm (10 pm), a number alluding to the shirt worn by Pelé, 80 drones portrayed the trajectory of Edson Arantes do Nascimento with shapes and colors.

The presentation showed the Minas Gerais town of Três Corações, the arrival in Santos and its conquests in the fields of the world. Afterwards, the Municipal Symphony Orchestra played the two anthems of Santos Futebol Clube.
