How we got to the postponement of Atromitos-AEK, what applies from now on

by

We’ve been waiting for it since the bad weather “Barbara”, we found it in the rafters!

THE match between Atromitos and AEK for the 21st matchday of the Stoiximan Super League never startedas it was realized that the beam height in one hearth it was 5-7 cm lower than it should be!

The conclusion was after several works and processes on both ends that a new check was carried out but it was decided that the problem had not been remedied, with the Union proceeds to appeal in order to get the victory without a fight.

The chronological order of events

17:00 About half an hour before the cross, it was found that one of the fire pits had a height two centimeters lower than what the regulation provides.

Panagiotis Kone and other people from the AEK delegation were with the referees in the measurements and people of Atromitos, and they confirmed the wrong dimensions. Actions were immediately started in order to overcome the problem, which, however, is not as simple as it initially seemed. And the incredible thing is that a little while later it was found that the same issue exists with the second focus!

17:25 The “yellow and black” are talking about a bigger difference than predicted, which reached 5-7 cm, with the referee Manouhos also noticing the problem.

17:30 At the time when the cross was planned, people on the field are trying to correct the situation in one goal using shovels – that is, trying to… lower the ground on the goal line! Next is painting the line.

17:50 The Atromitos people report that the problem has been fixed and that the referee will check the situation again – ten minutes before the end of the period.

17:57 The referee, together with the captains, Gianniotis and Araucho, checks the two goals and then returns to the dressing room.

18:11 Peristeriotes report that in the second measurement of the beams, the referees found that six of the seven points were within the prescribed limits, with AEK filing an objection for the one that was not.

18:15 The people of Atromitos inform that the match will not take place, with AEK filing an objection to get the victory without a fight and the home team responding with resistance.

Atromitos-AEK: How we got to the postponement, what happens now

18:30 AEK confirms that “We lodged an objection until the scheduled start time of the match (at 17:30), it was done through our captain, Sergio Araujo. We noted that the dimensions on both stoves were abnormal, from 4 to 7 centimeters. Upon objection, the arbitrators measured the beams and found that our argument stood.

The reasonable time provided by the 30-minute regulation was given, the referees came out again, measured and have again found that there is an irregularity in the dimensions of both hearths. The deviation was 4 centimeters at least in the last measurements, these about 2 points do not apply”.

What is to come next

Having confirmed that both teams will take legal action, a look at the regulation we find the following in article 9:

The cancellation of a match, due to the irregularity of the field, implies at the expense of the responsible home team, in addition to the other consequences, the obligation to pay the expenses of the match (travel expenses of the opposing team, referee, match observer, etc. ) as determined by the organizer.

1. a) The playing field must meet the specifications set out in the Laws of the Game.

2. a) A competition area that does not meet the specifications of par. 1, can be characterized as irregular only before the start of the competition.

3. For the possibility of holding a match or not, due to irregularity of the pitch, the referee is the only one competent to decide, who is obliged to write down any relevant observation on the Match Sheet (F.A.).

The visiting team has the right to raise objections or a related objection according to article 23 par. 1a of the CAC, by submitting a document to the referee, signed by the captain-football player of the team, which is attached to the F.A. before the start of the match. Also, the home team has the right to raise objections, if the referee considers the pitch irregular, by submitting a document to the referee, signed by the captain – football player of the team, which is attached to the F.A. The referee at the closing of the F.A. must respond to the issues of the document or objection. In the case of an objection, the competent Disciplinary Committee decides on the fate of this and the match according to articles 23 and 24 of the CAC.

4. After arriving at the field and at least half an hour before the start of the match, the referee inspects the playing field. In the event that he discovers deficiencies that make the field irregular, he immediately calls the captain of the home team and requests that any appropriate measure be taken to restore the normality of the field, as long as, in the judgment of the referee, the measure will not result in delay start of the match. In exceptional cases, the referee may, at his discretion, delay the start of the match for a maximum of thirty (30) minutes if he believes that the problem can be rectified within that time period. The home team is obliged to comply with and carry out any relevant instruction of the referee.

5. The cancellation of a match, due to irregularity of the field, entails at the expense of the responsible home team, apart from the other consequences (i.e. of article 21 par. 3 Id of the CAC) and the obligation to pay the costs of the match (travel expenses of the opposing team, referee, match observer, etc.) as determined by the organizer.

Article 23 of the CAP states that:

Objections may only be submitted by competing teams in matches between themselves, for the following exclusive reasons:

a) For irregularity of the field (non-observance of the provisions of article 9 of these Regulations).
