Miltos Tedoglou’s coach, George Pomaskiwanted to talk about the Greek long world champion in an interview, underlining that shoes are not the ones that play the most important role in an athlete’s career, while he went on to say that Tedoglou would dare to make the leap up to… barefoot so as to overcome the cancelled 8.40.
However, Pomaski himself confirmed that the shoes worn by Miltos Tedoglou, have not been certified.
Giorgos Pomaski’s statements in detail:
“I say he would jump barefoot. He has awesome skills. From day one I’ve said he’s a special kid.”
On whether Tedoglou was angry about the cancellation of the jump, he said: “Of course, but Miltos has this characteristic, which brings him to a positive side, not a negative side, because an athlete can become completely disorganized, he can give up his effort”
When asked if Miltos Tedoglou really stated that “I can jump 8.40 whenever I want”, Mr. Pomaski answered: “He said it and he means it and he knows it. That is, if you jump, 8.30-8.40 is the same and if you step 10 points as you did yesterday, 8.51. That doesn’t mean anything, it’s a struggle, it’s an effort and I think Miltos Tedoglou does it in the best way.”
“Everyone is on his side, because everyone has suffered from something like this. And for me it is an injustice that one thing cannot be certified that you do 100 and 200 meters with these shoes and 400. The shoe does not make the athlete. The athlete makes the shoe. Injustice is often suffocating, because the shoe is not made to add a point to the athlete’s performance.”.
“I am sure that Miltos will continue to do what he is doing. He is a track and field athlete, long jumper and will continue to do so in the best way. To be healthy only, because the pressure is great, the trips are many, the trainings are heavy. Mentally he is very strong. He’s not tired, but all bodies aren’t meant to be weighed down all day. He is delicate, but the specific training he does is effective and he has the ability to bring out 100% of his ability. Because a lot of kids work with 30, with 50, with 80. He, whenever needed, can put 110. The jump is technically perfect”.
For the upcoming Pan-European Championship: “These competitions are stations for the preparation, yes he has some gains from this thing, but it is a continuation that develops the athlete’s competitive form”
