Interview for everyone and everything with… revelations to be discussed granted by Lefteris Avgenakis!
The Deputy Minister of Sports, speaking to new-economy.gr, referred to appointment of foreign referees in the Super League, revealing that the chief referee Mark Clattenberg has trusted him that he has accept threats to his life!
He even talked about it error in the EPO elections, expressed his opinion on self-governing, while emphasizing that they exist even set up “in student struggles to get points”!
He said in detail about:
– the mistake he made in the EPO elections:
«I did not have to show a good mood by taking a step back so as not to apply the way of elections as in other sports. Some paraphrased it or did not keep their promise to help Greek football move forward. I do not know how many times I have been reshaped by various media outlets run by specific group administrations. In the end, the prime minister, not the media, is in charge of the country and the government»
– the responsibility to be taken by FIFA and UEFA for Greek football:
«The holistic study will be applied whether some people like it or not. If FIFA and UEFA do not want to say it publicly because they have signed and have part of the responsibility. Signed on behalf of the State by the Prime Minister of the country who respects and honors his signature».
– the foreign referees in the crucial matches of the Super League:
«It is derogatory for the Greek refereeing to officiate matches of the top category by foreign referees. With Mr. Klattenberg (chief referee) who is not a fan of having only foreign referees, we aim to create a nursery for professional Greek referees so that they can slowly take the baton. Not all Greek referees are useless. We have very capable referees who, in all this foggy landscape that has been created, either underestimate their ability and role, or are afraid. Mr Clattenberg has personally trusted me that he receives threatening messages about his life and his integrity».
– its opinion on the self-government of the EPO:
«Self-government has been misunderstood. It is neither a captaincy nor an independent state in Greece. The prime minister, who honors him, made a move to give Greek football a chance to move forward by signing a joint framework for cooperation with FIFA and UEFA. Some do not serve it. They are trying to fool. For the past 4 months, the improvements provided in the statute of the EPO have not passed. Some are trying to work for us. We do not work. We know the situation very well».
– the complaint he made on 29-6-2020 in parliament that some EPO advisers are torpedoing the candidacy of the Europa League final for 2022 or 2023 at the Pankritio Stadium?
«We had reached the final stage with a file that had been worked on by Ministry officials and local Heraklion executives at zero cost. I say that because some people had stayed in other times, with other ministers and said that we wanted to eat money. When we reached the last stage, which was for UEFA to choose Heraklion or Tirana, some members of the EPO administration guided and without personality, they decided to withdraw their candidacy, donating the event to Albania. Its a shame. Were they afraid that the Government and Avgenakis might be credited?»
– the State’s handling of the issue of match-fixing in Greek football:
«Gangrene of sport. He has not handled it properly. In fact, the previous ministers had the Macolin Convention in their drawers for 5 years because they were afraid of breaking eggs and colliding with all the mechanisms of the rigged games. We created the National Platform for Athletic Integrity (EPATHLA). Those who think that manipulated matches exist only in the first category of professional football are deeply laughed at. They also exist in student competitions to get points, in amateur and other competitions. We are one of the 3 countries that has given weight to this hot issue. Representatives of international organizations say so».
