The experienced guard, who has been helping the specific department for some time anyway, had not been able to get the right to participate in the “clover” games due to the coronavirus.
However, as announced today (20/2) by Panathinaikos AO, the issue has been resolved and he is now normally available to compete if requested.
The relevant announcement in detail:
“The Panathinaikos Athletic Club announces that Nikos Pappa’s card has been activated for the Club’s wheelchair basketball team.
Nikos Pappas is now officially on the roster of the “clover” wheelchair basketball team.
It is recalled that in the roster of the department there is a right to participate of two able-bodied players during the matches and an unlimited number in general in the live force and Nikos Pappas belongs to this category.
Nikos Pappas has actively helped the department since the beginning and his desire to join the team for two years now is coming true with the issuance of his card.
The Covid pandemic brought back the whole process, however, his desire remained “warm” and after the necessary documents were gathered, OSEKA proceeded to issue his card.
Fate brought it so that it was the 666th ticket of OSEKA and that’s how Pappas became the first player to be in both an A1 able-bodied team and a wheelchair basketball team.
In a statement on www.pao1908.com he said “As I have said before I feel part of this group since it was created and I participate in its actions anyway.
I had expressed my interest in issuing a bulletin, however, with the pandemic, everything went back in time and it happened to be issued now.
Panathinaikos is an Association that must lead the way in sports and include the whole world in its ranks, regardless of disability, gender, age, etc.”
