The “red and whites” made their worst appearance in the Euroleague this year, knowing the heavy defeat 83-62 from Armaniwhich was the first after a seven-game winning streak.

The match

Olympiacos started with Fal, Vezenkov, Papanikolaou, Kanan and Walkap. Mistakes by both teams in the first two minutes, with the “red and white” having a small lead (2-4). Olympiacos entered the second quarter by mistake and Tonout sent Armani to +5 (22-17), with Larentzakis and Peters answering for the equalizer (22-22), at 12′. However, the “red and white” did not have a similar continuity. Cheap mistakes and Tonut and Meli who were unsolved problems in the defense sent the home team to +6 (32-26), which they kept (35-29) until 17′, after Barzoka’s players were playing badly and had completely lost their pace. In the remaining time, at least the defense worked for Olympiacos, where thanks to a three-pointer by Larentzakis, they went to the locker room with -3 (35-32).

Vezenkov brought the match to a point at the beginning of the second half, but the … pathogens of the first came back for Olympiakos. Cheap mistakes gave easy possessions to Armani, who with versatility in the attack made a 12-0 run for +13 (47-34), in the 25th minute. Vezenkov temporarily stopped the streak, but Baron responded and with his own points sent the home team to +15 (54-39), in the 26th minute. Through their defense, the Piraeus reacted and reduced to -10 (56-46), until 28′. However, what they built… they destroyed in the last minutes with bad choices in the attack, with the Italians going on a 5-0 run and closing the third period at +15 (61-46).

Olympiacos had the same bad start in the fourth quarter with Hines and Mitrou-Long sending Armani to +20 (66-46), which it maintained (70-50), until the 32nd minute. Then, the “red and whites” made a reaction with the defense and with Walkup they went on an 8-0 run (70-58), until the 34th minute. But they still didn’t last. With the return of Baron and Meli and the collapse of the defense, the difference went back to +18 (76-58), at 36′. From that point on, Barzoka’s players… quit the game and suffered a heavy 83-62 defeat.
