Gionis begins his attempt at the “Singapore Smash” table tennis against the Ukrainian Zmudenko

Panagiotis Gionis was drawn at the base of the Singapore Smash” 2023 World Table Tennis table tennis table and in the first round of the “64” he is invited to face the Ukrainian Yaroslav Zmudenko, who is second favorite in this table.

The WTT Smash in Singapore begins on Tuesday with the men’s and women’s qualifiers and runs until 19/03. It is one of the top events of the International Table Tennis Federation, it brings together the best athletes on the world stage and Gionis was included in the list of singles participants based on his good position in the international ranking table (number 86).

His fight with Zmudenko takes place at 13:00 Greek time. The leading representative of Greek table tennis abroad has been in the island country since Sunday together with the men’s national coach, Kostas Vatsaklis, and has completed his preparation.

The Singapore Smash 2023 Singles Qualifier consists of three rounds. Proceeding from the “knockouts” of the “64”, that is, 8 athletes will remain, who will qualify for the main draw, which will begin on 11/03 and will also be of the “64”. At the same time, the remaining individual competitions will be held (men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles), where Gionis does not have the right to participate.

If the top defender eliminates Zmundenko (number 60 today in the world ranking), then in the “32” of the qualifiers he will meet the winner of the match Marcos Madrid (Mexico)-Kay Stuber (Germany). If he makes it to the last 16, then his possible opponents for the decisive qualification match in the first round are the Czech Tomas Polanski, the Senegalese Ibrahim Diao, the Indian Sehit Suravajula and the Australian Xavier Dixon.
