The relevant announcement in detail:

“The T.A.A. Athlos Orestiada is pleased to announce the start of its partnership with the 72-year-old experienced coach, Giannis Laios, who officially takes over as coach of the men’s team.

Among the leading athletes and coaches of Greek volleyball, Mr. Laios began his career as an athlete at Esperos Kallithea, but he particularly distinguished himself as a passer for Olympiakos, in whose “colors” from 1973 to 1985, he won 7 championships and 2 cups Greece. The “final titles” of his career were written in the 1985-86 season at Panathinaikos, by winning the championship.

As a coach, the new technician of our team has even more successes to show with the crown of all the Cup Winners’ Cup with Olympiacos, on whose bench he had earlier celebrated five championships (1987, 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1992) and three Greek Cups (1989 , 1990, 1992).

He was the Federal coach of the national men’s and women’s national teams, he was a successful coach in Panathinaikos, Panhellenic for a decade, but also in many other teams in Greece (Esperos, Ktesiphon Paanias, Apollon Smyrna, Kyzikos of Nea Peramou, Kalamata 80, Panerythraikos) and Cyprus (Renaissance of Deryneia, APOEL).

Yiannis Laios is considered a “deep connoisseur” of the sport, while in addition to his great honors on the field as a legendary form of the sport, he also has a brilliant academic career to show for it, as he was an Assistant Professor (SEFAA University of Athens) in the field of volleyball ( s.s volleyball).

In his first statements as a new coach, after his first team training, Mr. Laios said the following: “Orestiada must always have a team in the top division of Greek volleyball and we must all help for that. In training, I saw enthusiasm from the children and our goal is to stay in the division through the play-offs”.

The family of Athlos Orestiada welcomes Mr. Laios to the club and to our city and we wish him health and success with our team.”
