The jersey with the number 41, the one with whom he played throughout his career in the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks, is now in the sky of their stadium. At dawn the Mavs in a ceremony with intense emotional charge, they withdrew the jersey of Dirk Nowitzki, honoring his offer to the team. And yet this return of the Mavs to their favorite German will not end here, as as they announced, his statue is being prepared which will be placed outside the stadium.
Many of Nowitzki’s former teammates, opponents, and NBA commissioner Adam Silver were present at today’s ceremony. He, accompanied by his wife and three children, could not believe what the Mavs had prepared. “This shirt always made me want to improve and achieve great things, it always pushed me to get better and gave me the strength to keep working hard, giving me great motivation.”, were the first words of Nowitzki who continued:
“But what I recognize most and appreciate more than anything else is the support that this shirt gave me in the difficult times I had. In the difficult moments of the playoffs, in the big defeats of the playoffs. You know something… This shirt is you. Thank you very much”, said Nowitzki, under the watchful eye of thousands of friends of the team, guests and his mentor, Holger Geswindner.
Don/t ever underestimate the role of (supporting) parents in the career of an athlete. Even those athletes who don/t get to the highest top, but are as passionated as Dirk Nowitzki. #41forerver https://t.co/YnOGBIg64Q

Impressed by the ceremony o Adam Silver reported… «Surely you here in Dallas know how to do such ceremonies. I have never seen anything like this “, were his first words. Then, addressing Nowitzki, he stressed: “They love you here in Dallas. They love you all over the world. 21 years in a team. “Such a thing has never happened again in our league, never again in a league in general.”
