Bellamy on his bankruptcy: “For the last few years I have felt like a dead man waiting for the end”

by

In a deposition of his soul, he proceeded Greg Bellamyjust a few 24 hours after the British courts had declared him outright bankrupt and had all of his assets frozen.

His current assistant coach, Vincent Kompanyon her bench Burnley and veteran footballer of Liverpool, Manchester City, Blackburn, West Ham and Newcastle among others trusted the wrong people and saw in one night, all that he had gained after his huge career on the football pitches was lost.

In an interview with Daily Mail The Welshman stressed that he never liked alcohol, abuse, drugs or gambling, he was an excellent professional and yet the fact that he blindly trusted the wrong people forced him to live in recent years like a dead man waiting the redemption of his last day.

Through his words and example, he hopes to “save” hundreds of young football players who decide without hesitation to entrust the management of their money to the wrong people and calls on them to take their own responsibilities because the reality they will face once they hang up their football boots their shoes will be completely different from what they imagine.

As he reports, not only has he now lost all of his assets, but he can’t even buy or rent a house or car as banks are “lurking” to seize anything that comes into his possession.

What Geg Bellamy said about the last years of his life:

“For the last 5-6 years I’ve been living like an afterlife. I’m just waiting for someone to give me redemption and free me from all this, I’m just waiting for the door to knock and for someone to tell me today is your last day. You just can’t look ahead. I lost all the money I earned, I can’t even get a house anymore. Financially I have no future, I can’t acquire anything, I’ve lost everything.”

What the 43-year-old technician argued about the causes of his bankruptcy:

“My life was orderly, I was never a tax evader, but I was really naive. Everything I had was taken from me. If you are advised by the wrong people, everything can be ruined. I have come to regard my final bankruptcy as a relief, as an opportunity to live again.”

Sure there are people who think I wasted all my money on booze, gambling and drugs, but I didn’t. I’ve never touched drugs since I was a little kid, until now. I don’t gamble, I’ve never gambled but I relied and gambled unfortunately with the wrong people.”

The message-appeal to today’s young footballers:

“I want all this to be a warning to other footballers, to check everything and be sure that those they trust are the right ones. They need to be aware that it’s like the wild west out there. Get a group of independent people to advise you and ask for a second opinion. I lived and played football in a period when footballers found everything ready. Every bill, everything was settled by the club and that was a huge mistake.

It makes you vulnerable, it’s good for footballers to take responsibility because one day the clubs will stop being there. You will quit football and remain a young man, who will pay your bills next? You have to learn to survive, you have to learn to live in the real world.”
