Igokea was the team that won the first title of the newly formed Youth BCL. In the final, the team from Bosnia prevailed over the other favorite of the tournament, Tofa with 73-66 and took the first place.
The protagonist was Ognien Radosic, but the MVP of the tournament, Dusan Makitan. The former had 26 points and 9/12 2-pointers with 5 rebounds, while the latter finished the games with 19 points (4th in the tournament), 11 rebounds (also 2nd overall) and 2.6 assists.
Ozgur Cengiz, on the other hand, finished with 26 points, but with an overconsumption of attempts, as he was 11/30 from three and 1/13 from three with 9 assists. All three, Makitan, Radosic, Cengiz, were members of the tournament’s top five, which was completed by Ernestos Matulevic of Rita and Roe Averney of Hapoel Hier.
“This title means everything to us. We couldn’t have imagined it before the games. Somehow we managed it and we are proud of ourselves” said Makitan, who about the MVP title said: “It’s a big deal. I couldn’t believe it, but somehow it happened too.”
The third place was won by Ritas, who in the semi-final had been defeated 76-72 by Igokea. In the minor final, the team from Lithuania beat Hapoel 78-73, with Ernestos Matulevic having 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The Israelis got 18 points from Yadin and Hitkes, while Avneri added 17.
Impressive is the fact that the trophy awarded to Igokea hides a very innovative idea, as it is perhaps the first cup, created with 3D printing and in a design made by gamers. The trophy took two days to be printed using a process used by car manufacturers for some complex components, and then the layers of nickel that make it super shiny were applied.
The top three in the evaluation were:
Dusan Makitan (Igokea) 24.8
Ozgur Cengiz (Tofas) 23.7
Roe Avneri (Hapoel) 23.0
The top three scorers were:
