“Silver” Kouyoumtsidis in the European wrestling in Zagreb

Giorgos Kougioumtsidis, the “phenomenon” of Greek wrestling, won his fourth consecutive medal in a European wrestling championship. Kouyoumtsidis competed on Easter Tuesday in the 79 kg final of the freestyle event in Zagreb and put in a huge effort.

The 22-year-old European champion faced the Ukrainian Vasyl Mikhailov and tried from the beginning of the fight to attack and take control. Kouyoumtsidis took a 1-0 lead as his opponent was repeatedly checked, but the Ukrainian led 2-1 in the first half.

The Greek champion then looked for a way to take the lead, but the Ukrainian took the win with a 3-1 final.

Kurugliev in the European final in a festive way

Dauren Kurugliev advanced to the final of the European Freestyle Wrestling Championship. The 31-year-old champion, without encountering difficulties, prevailed 5-0 against Slovakian Boris Makoev and solemnly qualified for the 86 kg final.

It is remarkable that Kurugliev made it all the way to the gold medal match without conceding a point from any of his opponents.

In the final, he will face Miles Nazem Amine from San Marino.

In order, Kurugliev dominated by technical superiority (11-0) Hungary’s Patrick Puespoecki and Latvia’s Aivars Samusonoks (10-0) and Azerbaijan’s Abubakr Abakarov 9-0 before also beating the Slovak.

Azamat Khosonov in the “small” final of the European

Azamat Hosonov will challenge for the bronze medal at the European Men’s Championships. The 23-year-old Greek champion has secured a place in the 125 kg freestyle final, where he will challenge for a podium finish against Hungary’s Daniel Ligeti.

Hosonov started his course at the European Championships in Zagreb ideally. He beat Serbian Nurasulov 2-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he lost to Georgian Petrashvili, who reached the final.

Premiere for women with Agoro Papavasileiou

On Wednesday, it’s the women’s turn. Agoro Papavasileiou will compete first. The Greek champion at 76 kg was drawn to face the Serbian Fani Nagy-Nand.

Meanwhile, Maria Prevolaraki, who will fight on Thursday, learned about her potential opponents. At 53 kg, the “Lady” of Greek wrestling was placed directly in the quarterfinals and awaits her opponent that will emerge from the pair between the Ukrainian Liliya Khorisna and the Lithuanian Vestina Danisevičiute.
