McCollum: “Bad choice for Panathinaikos Ataman, he doesn’t have the stability and budget of Efes”

A new era will enter from next summer Panathinaikosas he agreed with Ergin Ataman, who will take over the technical leadership from next season.

Although in basketball Europe the news was considered a very positive development, there was also a different opinion.

Specifically, the famous basketball player Eric McCollumwho currently plays for Karsijaka and has worked with Ataman in Efes and Galatasaray, expressed his belief that the Turkish coach’s move to Panathinaikos it is not a good choice for him.

In detail what he said on the well-known URBONUS podcast:

“I’m not a big fan of this move. Think how many coaches Panathinaikos has changed. He changes them as often as we change underwear. There’s a lot of pressure there, they haven’t been a force in the EuroLeague playoffs for a long time. One time they have the same owner, another time he exits and then tries to sell the shares to the shareholders. If I’m a coach, I like stability, I like to know what I’m going to find the next day.

In Ephesus, you also have twice the budget, why would you want to go somewhere with half the budget and less security? This is my opinion unless Panathinaikos intends to go back to the old ways.

Ataman wants to be in control when it comes to the selection process of the players and I don’t know if Panathinaikos will allow him. It would be interesting to see, but he needs a strong player at guard. When you cut the budget by 50%, going to a different team, it’s going to be hard to find the Micic and Larkin of this world.”
