He ended the season in the best possible way OFIwho defeated him Panetolico 2-0 in Agrinio and finished first in the playouts (and seventh overall) of the Stoiximan Super League.
After the match, Valdas Dabrauskas praised his players with a leadership speech for their performance this season, and declared “proudest coach in the world”.
What he said in detail:
“The season is over and only those of us in here know what we experienced. When we were coming home after defeats, from games in which we had played better and we didn’t win or we had a goal disallowed or the opponent scored. At such moments you return home and think: “We will never get out of this situation”. Some of you were in the starting line-up more times and some not, some played more, some a few minutes or only in one body, but you are all truly incredible.
You don’t know how much you gave to us, the coaching staff, because you made it easy for us. We just created the plan, told you a few things, and you went ahead, because you really cared.
The difficult situation we went through at the beginning, when we had negative results, with the criticism from the fans, the media, we know it was not fair.
But you rose to the challenge and are proven wrong every day. We, the staff members, who were talking and discussing, knew that we are much better than this. You showed this even today (in Agrinio). We won, but were we the better team? Obviously not.
But now we deserve this luck, now we have acquired a winning mentality. Now even when it doesn’t matter we really fight. What I want is to thank you for this season. I really think I had a fantastic team. Not only as footballers, but also as people and characters. I believe that all of you are winners, because you won every day against yourself.
The first thing you should do when you return to your homes is to hug your families, your loved ones and give them a kiss from us. I know that they also experienced this challenge with you, Your spouses, partners, parents, siblings, children suffered with you.
Maybe you came home after a loss and didn’t want to play with your kids for no reason, just because you live for the team.
I also want to thank the members of the medical staff and the coaches, who every day were behind and supported you.
What I want to do is applaud you. I feel like the proudest coach in the world, having worked with such a team. Thank you”.
