by

THE Mike Kouris was announced as its new coach Amynta. The 50-year-old coach signed a one-year contract and replaces Dimitris Liogas on the bench of the Ymittos team. Amyntas this year managed to stay in the division through the play out process.

The announcement:

The Board of Directors of the Amyntas Ymittos Sports Club announces the start of cooperation with coach Mike Kouri, who will lead the coaching staff of the Men’s team for the 2023-24 season, fully identifying with the goals of the Club.

Mike gave us his thoughts on the new chapter in his coaching career and his thoughts on the upcoming league on the Club’s official website:

The agreement with Amydas was immediate, with the principles he espouses throughout the years of his history, being the main parameter that pushed me to it. I am impressed by the fact that athletes who complete their playing career, continue from various positions, close to the team. I particularly want to mention the Zoupa family and the way they approached me, feeling from the first second the family atmosphere that characterizes the Association.

The season spent in the second division was particularly exciting, with most matches being decided on the edge, marking it as the best, with the competitiveness peaking in the final four. The arrival of the two foreigners portends an even stronger championship for next year as well, in which the historic and strong teams of Panioni, Milos, Doxa Lefkada and Esperos Lamia will participate. Through special licensing competition will increase, too.

I hope injuries stay away from the court and I expect ‘the best’ for next season».

Born in 1973, in Australia, the technician, before sitting on the edge of the benches, had an enviable career as a scorer on the floor, with a typical move from Ionikos Nikias from 1994 to 2001 (A2 & B’ National) and again from in 2008-10 (3rd National).

Last season he coached Papagou in the Elite League, reaching the final four of the Unicef Trophy and missing out on a tie to enter the division’s playoffs. The cooperation with the “strategists” had started in 2019, as a member of the training team, taking the helm in the 2021-22 season, winning the championship of the second national team and promotion, which he had achieved three times as a player, taking the title of the coach “revelation” of the season.

Amyda’s family would like to welcome Mike into their arms and wish him the best of luck in his endeavours!
