Tsitsipas: “I had the patience of a monk”

Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed the point he believes decided his game with Schwarzman and his victory in his statements to Eurosport. The Greek tennis player stood by the patience he showed in the big rallies that were decisive in the development of the match.

“I had the patience of a monk and worked very well in the big rallies. I know he likes to play big points, have big shifts, he’s a player who fights, perseveres and doesn’t give up. This is also the reason why this fight was not easy and I knew it. Even when I was 2-0 sets up, even when I broke in the third set, I knew that I had a difficult task and that I will have to continue with persistence and patience, because he is a player who can make the change at any time.”



On his around-the-net backhand in the third set, he said:

“It’s a crazy pleasure to hit hits like that and feel it afterwards… I wanted to blow people up, but I said I’d better stay in my bubble at that moment, because I felt good, I felt completely at peace with myself and in a agreement with what I was creating on the field. It felt like I was hitting a home run with a baseball bat and the decision was made in milliseconds. At first I was just thinking about putting it over the net, but then I saw that there was this empty space, I hit it and it was done.”



Finally he added:

“Not taking things seriously. Have people around you who don’t take things seriously. Of course the work must be continued with dedication and seriousness, but I personally don’t like people who take everything seriously and are generally a bit uptight. It’s something I’ve changed in my life and I’m with people who are the opposite of that.

They make me more excited and happy and at the same time I continue to aim for what I want in my career and outside of my career. I am given the opportunity to enjoy my work with a smile, which is often difficult, because there is glory, there is money, there are so many demands, which make you forget it and that’s where it gets lost”
