The first with the absolute success of Olympiakos (in the first group) and Panathinaikos (in the second) came as expected in the A1 National Men’s table tennis category, however the last two games in the federal hall of SEF judged in the second place.
Especially in the second group, the closing was exciting with Rethymno prevailing over AEK with a better score than its defeat in the first match and reaching the best position in its short history.
The Union, which had the misfortune to lose with injury in the second separate match with Rethymno Giannis Vlotinos, was defeated on Saturday by Panathinaikos for the penultimate match.
In the first group, AS Pera Athinon confirmed the predictions for two victories, reached Tatavla, who normally lost to Olympiakos, and overtook them, because in the games between them they had one more set!
In the A1 men, Olympiakos, which again had the great Russian Alexander Simbaev in its lineup, and Panathinaikos, which presented the Bulgarian international Petio Krastev as a foreigner, “closed” their games in the groups with two more victories. They are now preparing for the playoffs on January 29-30. Pera and Rethymno will be with them in the top four.
In the first group, the “Citizens” did not have any difficulty in beating Filia and Elefsina 3-0. Tatavla would have to achieve the super surprise against Olympiakos to keep the second place. They bent down with 3-0 sets and stayed on the third “step”, because in the balance of results with Pera (from a 3-0 victory) they were behind for one set.
Rethymno went down completely this time to SEF in order to reach the big result against the champion of Greece of 2019 and 2020, AEK. With two foreigners and Nikos Antoniadis in the lineup, he caught a very good performance in the last match of the program, prevailed with 3-1 sets and, in the tie with the Union, overcame the defeat with 3-2 sets that he had suffered in the first round.
AEK may not have had the championship goals this year, but of course it made a great effort to maintain the second place. In the derby with Panathinaikos, he kept out the record holder of the national titles, Giannis Vlotinos, and used him as the first player in the match against Rethymno.
In the second game in a row, the arrogant champion led 2-0 set of the Bulgarian Ivanov, when at the beginning of the third set he injured his right elbow. He was in severe pain, a muscle swelled and he had to stop.
In the fourth game, Iakovos Aivatidis played instead of Vlotinos. For the Cretans, the other two victories were achieved by the Frenchman Damien Provost.
In detail, the evolution of the match OEA Rethymno-AEK 3-1:
Damien Provost-Costas Lagogiannis 3-1 (11-6, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8)
Daniel Ivanov-Yannis Vlotinos 3-2 (5-11, 5-11, 11-1, 11-0, 11-0 due to injury)
Nikos Antoniadis-Alexandros Madesis 2-3 (11-5, 10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 7-11)
Provost-Iakovos Aivatidis 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-3)

Then, however, the “greens” prevailed with two positive results of Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos (3-0 set by Madesis and Lagogiannis) and a marginal victory of Iason Kordoutis (3-2 set over Aivatidis).
