Fencing: Panhellenic championships in Athens and Ioannina on the weekend of June 17-18

Greek fencing returns to competitive action this weekend with the panhellenic junior/young women’s (U13) dueling sword in Ioannina and the junior men’s/young women’s (U20) panhellenic fencing in Athens.

PAS Ioannina has undertaken to organize in the capital of Epirus the most important dueling sword match of the year for the under 13 age group. In the individual matches (17/6) a total of 59 women and 68 women will compete, while in the team matches (18/6) 9 and 13 teams have been registered respectively.

On the sidelines of the panhellenic dueling sword championship for boys and girls (U13), the Hellenic Fencing Federation will organize, in cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, an action to celebrate the Olympic Day on Saturday 17/6 at 13:00.

Fotis Kaymenakis, a member of the EOE plenary session, will be present at the closed PEAKI gym, as well as Yannis Tsilis, rowing Olympian. The two invited guests will talk to the children about the Olympic ideal and Olympic values ​​and will give them a commemorative gift on behalf of the EOE.

The action was coordinated by Iris Vlachoutsikou, member of the Board of Directors of EOX in collaboration with Olympian Dimitra Maganoudakis and Andreas Karamanis, fencing coach and organizer of the event in Ioannina. Christos Pavlidis, who will attend the championship, will speak to the children on behalf of the Board of Directors of EOX.

Olympic Day is officially celebrated every year on June 23 and is a day dedicated to sport and what it offers to society. At the end of June, various actions are organized by sports bodies with the participation of sportsmen and women who have participated in the Olympic Games. The slogan for 2023 is #LetsMove and encourages all people to exercise for at least 30 minutes.

Intense competitive action will also be present in the OAKA fencing hall due to the Pan-Hellenic Youth (U20) swordsmanship championship, which will complete the domestic competitions of the current competition season in this particular weapon. A total of 44 young women and 48 young men will compete in the individual competitions (17/6) and from 6 teams in each category in the team competitions (18/6).

The present will be given to the youth by the teenager Artemios Tzovanis (AOX Aegaleo) who has won all three cups that have been held in the category. Opposing him will be strong names such as Konstantinos Tertipis (AOX Aigaleo), Manos Apostolopoulos (AXIA), Pavlos Panourgias (AAOX Aigaleo), Giorgos Ballos (AOX Aigaleo), Dimitris Sachinidis (GE Florina) and the champion teenager , Yiannis Tsimiklis (Georgia of Florina).

Eleni Ballou (AOX Aigaleo), Stavrina Garifallou (AOX Aigaleo) and Ariadni Naskari (OXI Glyfada) have shared the victories in this year’s three cups. Unlike the first two, Nascari will not be present in the championship, as will Iliana Daria Bouzika (GE Florina) who is No. 2 in the pan-Hellenic ranking. However, Vasiliki Mekra (AOX Aigaleo) and Anna Pilioura (AXIA) who have climbed to the podium of the category will be present.
