A great addition was made by Panioniosas it announced its acquisition Nikos Gikas. The 32-year-old guard, who left Prometheus, while he has also been through AEK, will strengthen the “blue-reds” in the Elite League, while there is always the “loophole” of upgrading to the Basket League if a vacancy arises.
The ten-time international ace with the Men’s National Team did not hide his joy about the agreement, while he revealed that he was present as a fan in two historical moments of Neosmyrniots. “I think I made the best choice in so many ways. I know what Panionios means. I was involved in Nalitzis’ goal (in the 1998 Cup final against Panathinaikos) as well as in the match against Lazio. Of course, I have also seen many of the team’s basketball games. Panionios is a big challenge for me and I look forward to achieving our goal, which is none other than promotion. Because Panionios deserves to be in the big league“, he emphasized.
The announcement:
Nikos Gikas was born in Athens on November 22, 1990. He is 1.86 meters tall.
His career began at Filathlitikos where he was a teammate of Giannis Antetokounmpo. With this team he reached the A2 Category (now Elite League Errikos Dunan) and in the 2012-2013 season he was the first in assists in the league.
At the end of the season he signed for Aris where he stayed until January 2015 when he agreed to continue his career in Latvia and Ventspils. There he was first in assists during his presence in the Baltic League.
In the summer of 2015 he returned to Greece and competed with AEN Kifisias in the Basket League. At the end of the year he “moved” to Patras and Prometheus for a first term that lasted until 2019.
In the 2018-2019 season, Gikas competed with Prometheus in the Basket League finals series against Panathinaikos.
From 2019 to 2021, he played in AEK, with which he won the Cup (2020). He returned to Prometheus where he managed to enter historical lists as he is currently the leader in games, assists and steals in the Patras team.
