Past by Panathinaikos has been for a few days the Lefteris Bohorideswith the Greek international leaving the “greens” after three years, at the same time completing his second term at the club.
Speaking to EEC web radiothe 29-year-old international made him account from his presence at Panathinaikos, he commented on the bad season that the “greens” had this year, while he also referred to the relationship he has with Sasha Vezenkovbut also in the criticism he received after his marking in Game 2 of the Basket League finals.
The statements of Lefteris Bohorides in detail:
For his three years at Panathinaikos, in his 2nd time away from the team: “It was a very special three years for Panathinaikos, since it operated with the “income-expenditure” system where things were more limited. The difficulties were mainly in Europe where we had bad runs and in general there were many games that we did not play as we should as Panathinaikos. I want to leave it all behind. Certainly there were enough bad times, but there were also good days and I keep those. We’re holding on and moving forward.”
On the criticism the players received this three years: “I say that it was one of the most difficult years because Panathinaikos was used to winning titles every year in Europe, to always be at the top. Especially when you are such a team it is even more difficult for every fan to tolerate any defeat and understand it. Whether it is unfair or not is all relative. I personally think that this is our job, you have to be ready for both the best and the worst and from then on we all enter the field and it is up to each fan to judge us or not”.
On what he keeps from his 2nd stint at Panathinaikos: “I certainly don’t want to remember the last picture, it was a very bad moment with which we closed the year. The good moments were several times in everyday life, some good victories we have had. In this 2nd career we won a championship, a Super Cup, a Cup. I want to keep good times, like all the times I spent with my teammates. Although the conditions were so difficult, we managed them as best we could, which is often difficult. When a team starts to lose and it passes through the team it is even more difficult to come out positive and the next day to put it behind you. It’s made all of us and me personally a lot stronger these three years, to try to manage even the bad day and the next day in training to be ready to fight and play the next game.”
On what went wrong at Panathinaikos this year: “For better or worse it was a lot of things. Usually in these cases I try to look at myself and my team through the players. We certainly couldn’t “bond” as a team and play as well as we can. And I certainly did not perform as I would have liked and I did not help the team as much as I would have liked. It is mainly the fault of the players who were on the court, because after all we are fighting and we can change things. Also, I should say that we faced an Olympiakos team that was a very good team and showed it all over Europe. That definitely plays its role, because when you play with such a good team you also have to play the perfect game to win.”
On Sasha Vezenkov’s injury in Game 2 of this year’s finals: “Sasha and I have grown up together, from the teenage years of Aris we were together all day. The day after his injury in the 2nd match of the finals, the two of us had gone for coffee. Even after what happened, the next day we both wanted to go out and sit and talk. Obviously it was not done on purpose, I was very sad after the match and I was very afraid that something has happened to him. Luckily that same night I talked to him, he told me that the magnetic is clear and I calmed down. With all the children we know each other, we have played against each other for so many years, we have played in national teams together. On the pitch the pulses are definitely higher, but they stay on the pitch.”
On Vezenkov’s move to the NBA: “I’m really happy for him. He deserved it, he has made incredible strides in recent years, he has left us all amazed. He’s definitely deserved it and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he does there, where I think he’ll adapt very quickly.”
For his future: “It’s too early. For the moment I have my mind only on the National team, to be ready in preparation and to give my best there. From here on, we have time and we will make the decisions.”
