An unemployed craftsman, a bodybuilder, a gym owner and a nutrition supplement shop owner are the Greek tentacles of a transnational anabolic drug ring that were recently “cut” by the officers of the Financial Police in collaboration with Europol.
Executives of EL.AS. talk about one of the largest trafficking circuits of this kind of substances which operated in our country for at least five years and in which appear as customers 27 athletes of various sports, 10 coaches – coaches, 10 owners of gyms – sports facilities, an owner of a supplement store food and a pharmacy owner.
In particular, as it appears from the report of kathimerini.gr, a man from Patras appears as the head of the illegal trafficking in Greece, who declared himself a tradesman without, however, showing any income. This man imported the anabolic steroids from China, Bulgaria and Poland, transported them to a specific place and then packaged them himself and started the delivery missions.
“He accepted orders mainly through text messages on his mobile phone and through online applications. He packed the preparations he imported from abroad and then sent the parcels by courier to the customers. His customers came from all over the world. It was sent to European countries and the USA “, sources with knowledge of the case told kathimerini.gr.
The accomplices of the above man are a bodybuilder who owns a gym from Xanthi, who, in fact, has been arrested twice in the past for drug trafficking, as well as a businessman from Ioannina who maintains a diet supplement store.
“Patrinos did not distribute the substances alone. “Trafficking took place both through the gym in Xanthi and through the protein shop in Ioannina”, added the same sources.
The countdown to the location and arrest of the members of the circuit began after information reached the offices of the Economic Police which spoke of the trafficking of a huge amount of anabolic steroids in our country and abroad. The investigation lasted many months and the information collected by the police officers who undertook the investigation was considered so serious that it was decided to contact and assist Europol.
In fact, a characteristic of the size of the circuit is the fact that the investigations of the law enforcement authorities were carried out simultaneously in at least 12 countries in Europe and the USA (Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Cyprus, Belgium, United Kingdom, Malta, United States, Netherlands and Luxembourg), as well as in five cities in Greece (Attica, Thessaloniki, Patras, Xanthi, Ioannina and Drama).
Finally, both the unemployed trader and his associates, aged 35, 47 and 51, were arrested on Tuesday, January 18. Regarding the profits of this circuit, they exceed 600,000 euros, while the total value of the confiscated preparations is estimated to exceed the amount of 200,000 euros.
In the searches, carried out in homes, businesses, vehicles and facilities, were found and confiscated:
135,000 tablets – ampoules with anabolic and other illicit drugs,
EUR 124,620,
air pistol and magazine with 9 metal bullets,
iron fist and knife,
9 mobile phones and digital storage disk,
large amount of packaging material and a number of handwritten notes.
