In a joint letter to the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrei Plenkovica group of parents and family members of Dinamo Zagreb fans who were remanded in custody after participating in murderous raid in New Philadelphia they are asking for government intervention for the safety of their children and a fair trial.
“We call on you as a government, but also personally, through diplomacy to urgently do everything possible so that our Croatian citizens, our sons, brothers, husbands and fathers, who are in custody after the incidents with followers in Greece, to be above all safe as they have already received threats during the investigations. Please use the political influence of your position so that they have a fair trial and a treatment that protects their human rights to the fullest extent possible“, says the letter, parts of which are published in the Croatian press.
At the same time, the families of those arrested express fears citing some reports about prison conditions in Greece, talking about overcrowding in prisons, corrupt prison officials, beatings or even murders! “We know full well that our family members should be held accountable for their actions, but it is essential that they not be treated as murderers, as the evidence so far does not indicate that they are“, they emphasize.
Next, they call on the Prime Minister of Croatia to talk to the Greek government and the European Union in order to find a way out “… from this alarming situation at the international level, so that there is no next one».
They also state that “… names, family details, ID numbers and much more were presented in the Greek media, while an identity of a 19-year-old who was alleged to be the Greek’s killer, but not related to the murder, was also released».
