For his sudden resignation Roberto Mazzini from the technical leadership of the Italian national team, the president of the country’s football federation, Gabriele Gravina, said in “Corriere della Sera”.
In particular, Gravina made revelations about what he discussed with the experienced technician, stressing that he would like to be more honest with himself.
In detail what the president of the Italian Federation stated:
“I don’t want to fuel further controversy but these statements were heartbreaking, inappropriate and insulting to me. He was insulting, I do not deny my friendship with Mazzini, but I hope he reconsiders his position.
I always trusted him, I never invaded the dressing room, nor did I suggest players, or formation, I didn’t deserve such words. I always stood up for him. If I didn’t have faith would I have signed him to a contract until 2026 and promoted him as under-20s coordinator?
I keep asking myself why Mazzini said some things, which I wonder if they are true, since he knows very well that the reality is the exact opposite of what he stated.
He never told me that he wanted to leave the team. I first heard his resignation from his wife, who is also his lawyer. I would have appreciated it more if he himself had expressed his will by looking me in the eyes.”
