The decision of Canal+ not to enter into the process of negotiating the television rights of the French championship is reported by Equipe in today’s publication.
In particular, it states that the subscription channel informed the organizing authority of the French championship about its decision in a letter. However, then with the information that the French website conveys in the relevant publication, this development can be considered as something to be expected.
In particular, the publication points out that there was a big conflict between the organizing Authority and the subscription channel. Canal+ felt it had been cheated by the LFP when the amount agreed for Amazon to acquire 80% of the rights it had… abandoned Mediapro, for the sum of 250 million euros per season, when Canal+ saw give 332 million euros per season for two matches a week.
Canal+ had taken legal action to break the agreement with LFP but the court had not accepted its request and had forced it to honor the agreement for another two years.
Somehow – Equipe estimates that this also explains the channel’s decision not to enter into negotiations for the rights of the championship for the first time since 1984, when its operation began.
