Italian football is in shock after the illegal betting scandal that broke out and concerns players and presidents of Serie A.
Two of the first names that came out and are for the… well tangled, are those of Nicolos Zaniolo and Sandro Tonaliwho in the middle of the developments were cut from the Italian national team for the matches against Malta (14/10) and England (17/10).
THE Luciano Spallettitechnician of the “squadra azzura”, however, declared his support for the two players until justice is decided, stressing however that it is right that they should be punished if what is said turns out to be true.
In detail what he said:
“It was a difficult night and there is a lot of bitterness about what happened. The whole team is upset and is close to Zaniolo and Tonali. And it will be even when the headlights are off. It is right that we try to help them defend themselves, then justice will do its job and if wrongdoing has been done it is right that someone should pay.
The president of the federation, Gravina, and the Minister of Sports, Ambodi, spoke about the danger of falling into such temptations. We need to make an effort to talk to these young people and make them aware of these pitfalls. We have to find a way to warn them about what is happening in the world. The important thing is to be able to correct your mistakes and become better.
The federation’s decision on Zaniolo and Tonali was correct based on what happened. You can’t bring two boys who are in a state of shock to take part in such an important match. We lose two champions, Zaniolo is a great player when he is free from some flaws on the pitch. Tonali has power and consistency and I hope to see them again as soon as possible.
However, whoever plays in their place will be just as strong. I’m not looking for an alibi. Either I get the win or I’m at a lower level than what Italy deserves.”
