Corinthians coach Sylvinho was fired in the early hours of this Thursday (3) after the team lost to Santos 2-1, in a comeback, in the first classic of the 2022 Paulista Championship.
The decision of the presidency was taken in the locker room of the stadium, shortly after the defeat.
“We understand that it is time to interrupt the work of our coach and make a course correction”, said the president of the club, Duilio Monteiro Alves. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sylvinho for all the effort, all the work, all the dedication to Corinthians”.
The next steps should be decided on this Thursday, at a meeting of the Corinthians board.
The game, played at Neo QuÃmica Arena, was valid for the 3rd round of Paulista.
Sylvinho was booed even before the ball rolled, when his face was shown on the stadium screen. The coach also went into the break under boos. As in the victory over Santo André, last Sunday (30), the coach had his departure requested by Corinthians fans.
Questions from fans began in the second half of 2021 and criticism has increased in recent months. He had been in the job since May of last year.
In the next round, the Parque São Jorge club will visit Ituano, on Sunday (6). On the same day, Santos goes to Campinas to face Guarani.
