Montoya: “We have a lot of confidence in ourselves”

The beginning of the season so far for Aris was mentioned by Martin Montoya.

The right-back of Thessaloniki spoke ahead of his team’s home match against PAS Ioanninaon Sunday afternoon (29/10, 20:30) and spoke of the trust that has developed within the ensemble.

In detail, Martin Montoya spoke to Nova about:



-the match with PAS Ioannina:

“We expect a difficult game, because we know that the opponent is low in the standings. He doesn’t have the points we have, so he wants to claim a positive result to go up. It will be a game with the difficulties that all games have with opposing teams, which are lower in the table, because they really need the points… We will have to play carefully in defense. We have to have possession of the ball and try to create difficult situations for our opponents. We have to try to score as quickly as possible, to be more comfortable in our game».

-whether Ares should pay attention to something else in today’s game:



“We should pay attention to two main things. The first is that because we intend to have possession, our opponent will try to create counter-attacks and find us open in defence. This must not be allowed to happen. We know they are a fast team and that’s all the more reason to be careful. The second is that we have to be careful about static phases».

-if Aris is excited after the victory against Panserraikos, the way he achieved it, he partially agreed:

“The truth is that we are very satisfied, that we beat Panseraikos. And with Kifissia we deserved to win, but it didn’t happen. We know how these teams play against us. We saw how much it cost us psychologically and physically to reach the victory against Panserraikos in the last second of the match. This must not happen again! Indeed, however, this win, after the previous loss of points with Kifisia, means a lot and filled us with excitement! We want to play like this against all the teams at home».

-if he thinks Aris is finding his footing competitively:

“We started the season badly. We had these two bad performances and the defeats in the first games of the league. Now, we have a lot of confidence in ourselves. We think we have a very good squad, very good morale and a very good new manager, but we have to take into account the fact that we are a lot of new players in the team and that plays its part. Some, in fact, came at the end of the preparation, without even having time to participate in it. In general, however, we have the conditions as a team to start playing better in bigger parts of the games, get wins and climb up the standings».
