He struggled for one half, but dominated the second and took the win with 2-0 upon him PAS Ioannina in “Kleanthis Vikelidis” o Mars!
The Thessalonians had no rhythm in the first half of the match and had meaningless possession, without managing to “unlock” the multi-faceted defense of the guests. However, the Suleimanov gave the solution to Akis Manziou’s team, putting them in the driver’s seat in the 55th minute, while PAS was forced to play with one player less than 61 minutes onwards, due to his suspension Gino.
THE Zamora made the final 2-0 in the 75th minute, with Aris celebrating their second straight win, moving up to 6th place in the standings and waiting to see how OFI will do against Olympiakos on Monday night. On the other hand, PAS suffered its fifth consecutive defeat, remaining stuck in the penultimate position of the standings, equal to the trailing Volos, which has played one game less.
In the minds of the coaches:
With 4-2-3-1 lined up the hosts o Akis Manzios, who did not have at his disposal Veleth, Saverio, Jules, Delizisi and Manu Garcia. Cuesta started under the posts, with Odubazzo at right-back, Ferrari at left-back and the Brumbets, Fabiano a stopper duo. Verstraat and Darida started as the two midfielders for Aris, with Suleimanov in the right wing role, Karlsson on the left, while Panagidis started behind Moron.
Same system for him Thanasi Staiko, who chose Kleiman as the goalkeeper, with Soria, Pantelakis, Eramouspe and Tsaousis in front of him as a four in defense. Karahalios and Rienstra started at the centre, with Gino in a 10-man role, Pamlidis on the right, Jima on the left and Rosero as more advanced, replacing Conte at the top of the attack.
The match:
Before the start of the match, a minute’s silence was held in memory of Aris legends Giannis Ioannidis and Giannis Michalitsou. Without a particularly fast pace in the first minutes, with Mars to get the ball at his feet early on and him PAS to wait in his own half of the field, waiting to strike with some quick counter-attack. His first final match came in the 5th minute, with a very mistimed long shot Verstratewhile in the 9th minute Moron made the turn from the right, with Darida not being able to make contact with the ball and with Karlsson shooting high out.
In the 11th PAS threatened Cuesta’s goal for the first time, after a wonderful partnership Rosero and Soriawith the second one making the trailing cross and with Odubajo to close at the last minute on Jima, who had made the move at the second post and was ready to score. Then the Mars he pressed, having the ball, but facing difficulties in finding the final pass that would “unlock” the visitors’ defense.
In the 21st century Darida he looked for Karlsson with a digged pass, with the home team asking for a penalty for Pamlidis’ hand, with VAR and Manouho saying “you’re playing”, explaining that the ball found the foot of the PAS player first. On the 23rd o Suleimanov made a nice move from the right and turned for Darinda, with the Czech one-footing just wide of the crossbar. In the 33rd minute, Moron found space and made the first final effort at home, with Kleiman blocking comfortably, while in the 34th minute Odubajo he left with a shoulder problem, with Montoya replacing him.
In the 37th minute, Aris came close to the goal, when after Verstrate’s corner kick, his header Fabiano who made a move at the first post and inertia in the defense of PAS, Moron almost took advantage, but the Clayman he reacted in time, leaving his home and “cleaning up” the situation. The first half ended with tension between the players and Manuho showing his yellow card to Suleimanov and Gino.
The image of the match did not change in the second half, with Aris moving the ball around, looking for a way to “unlock” the multi-faceted defense of PAS. In the 50′ and after a corner kick, Kleiman made a bad exit, but Brambetz and Moron they entered the phase together and failed to send the ball towards the goal. However, in the 55th minute, Thessaloniki took the lead, with Ferrari making an excellent cross from the left and with Suleimanov to send the ball into the net with a header, scoring for the first time in the jersey of Aris!
In fact, in the 61st minute, things became even more difficult for the visitors, with Gino seeing a second yellow card and being sent off, having gone dangerously and with his boot tops in a duel with Verstraat.
Having now absolute control of the match, with the lead and with a player more on the pitch, o Mars dominated looking for the second goal with which he would secure the three points. Finally, it came in the 75th minute, after a period of time that started with Kleiman saving Darinda’s long-range shot, then Menendez shot at Eramuspe, before Zamora send the ball into the net for the
2-0! Procedural character in the last minutes, with Zamora having a crossbar in the 87th minute with a beautiful volley and with Aris getting a three-pointer, thanks to which he climbed to 6th place in the standings.
MVP: THE Suleimanov he was active throughout the match, posing a constant threat to the PAS defence. He opened the way for Aris’ victory with his header in the 55th minute and was the star player for Akis Manzio’s team.
The whistle: Aris protested strongly about a penalty in the first half, arguing that a penalty should have been awarded for a handball by Pamlidis. Manouhos and VAR had a different view, with the match referee showing that the ball first hit the foot and then the hand of the PAS player. Manouhos kept the yellow card in his pocket on a couple of occasions when he shouldn’t have, while the second card he showed Gino for his dismissal in the 61st minute was correct.
