Matthew Perry leaves a fortune of R$600 million; understand who should keep assets

by

The success of “Friends” made the cast extremely famous and, of course, guaranteed a fortune for each of the series’ six protagonists. For Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing, it was no different. The actor, who died this Saturday (28) at the age of 54, had an estimated net worth of US$120 million (around R$600 million), according to the American website Celebrity Net Worth.

Perry never married or had children. His closest family members are his parents, Suzanne Morrison and John Bennett Perry, and his five siblings. If there is no will that defines the division of the fortune, the parents must receive the actor’s assets. This must still be evaluated according to American laws.

Perry appeared in all 236 episodes of “Friends” between 1994 and 2004. Each cast member earned about $90 million in base salary from the show alone, before profit-sharing bonuses and ongoing royalties.

As part of contract negotiations in 2000, the cast managed to demand profit-sharing from the show, which would allow them to receive royalties. “Friends” continues to generate more than US$1 billion (about R$5 billion) a year in royalties. Each cast member alone earns between US$10 and US$20 million in royalties annually (between R$50 and R$100 million, approximately).

Property investments

Since 2011, Perry has been carrying out financial transactions involving real estate. That year, he paid US$11 million (about R$55 million) for a new beachfront home in Malibu. He sold this house in January 2021 for US$13.1 million (approximately R$65.5 million).

In 2015, he sold another house in Malibu for US$10.65 million (approximately R$53.25 million).

In 2017, Matthew spent US$20 million (approximately R$100 million) to buy a penthouse in Century City, California. He sold the huge apartment for US$21.6 million (approximately R$108 million).

In 2018, he sold a house in a different area of Los Angeles for US$12.5 million (approximately R$62.5 million).

In 2020, Matthew paid US$6 million (about R$30 million) for a house in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles.

In June 2023, he paid US$5 million (approximately R$25 million) for a house in the Hollywood Hills, where his body was found this Saturday (28).
