by

His name may not be heard much outside the UK, but insiders know him Paul Mullin of the dozens of goals he scores every year with the Rexam.

The 29-year-old forward from Liverpool, who we learned even better through the documentary Welcome to Wrexhamreleased a few days ago his autobiography titled My Wrexham Storythrough which he also referred to the role played by… Katy Perry in overcoming the difficulties he faced earlier in his career!

You see, when he was competing in the Tranmere Rovers between 2018 and 2020, the Briton saw limited playing time and scored with the dropper. Which resulted in him even considering the possibility of retiring!

“I told my wife, Molly, when I didn’t want to go to practice. Besides, I wouldn’t play. I just wanted to stay home” says Malin in the book, who explains how his wife convinced him to get up and start for Tranmere training.

“Then my mother called me and told me to listen to a track from 2010, by Katy Perry, called “Firework”. He was telling me it was for me. I put it in the car and for the first time he paid attention to the lyrics. I heard great words about believing in yourself, it made me emotional as I thought why my mother told me to listen to that” says the footballer, who recovered and then did great things by transferring to Cambridge and counting 36 goals in 56 appearances within a year and a half!

Follow Wrexham by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElheny in 2021, with Malin developing into a club legend and has 85 goals in 110 appearances for the Welsh club to date…

Bless Katy Perry!
