1st place for Greece in the men’s team, 2nd in the women’s team at the Cyprus tournament

The leading role is again this year in Nicosia with the Greek representative teams and in the first part of the international Friendship tournament, successfully established by invitations by the All Cyprus Table Tennis Federation, they scored their first distinctions.

The games at the excellent multi-training center “Evangelos Florakis” started on Friday 01/12, yesterday Saturday 02/12 the team competition was completed and Greece emerged as the winner in the men’s team and took 2nd place in the women’s team.

In the Corbion system, the men’s team was formed by the teenagers Alexandros Madesis and Stathis Manolopoulos and the women’s team by the teenagers Mavra Kontopoulou and Alkistis Kasimi. Matches from table 1 are broadcast Live streaming through the Pancypriot Federation channel on youtube.

The leader of the expedition and responsible for coaching all the children is again this year the men’s federal coach Kostas Vatsaklis, who in the context of the very good relations and the wonderful hospitality had contacts with the management of P.O.E.P.A.

Out of five teams, the two categories had the team and it became a system of one for all in a single group.

In the men’s team, Greece took the lead with four wins in an equal number of matches and encountered great difficulties only against Cyprus A. There Marios Yagou, well known to the Greek public, prevailed in two difficult matches with Madesis and Manolopoulos. Madesis narrowly edged out the five sets. At 2-2, Manolopoulos took down Elias Sharpel and made the final 3-2. Earlier our national team had defeated Jordan, Lebanon and Cyprus B with 3-0.

In the women’s team, Kontopoulou and Kasimi, who are in their first year in the junior category, reached the silver medal with 2 wins and the same number of losses favored by a draw.

Greece beat Jordan and Cyprus B 3-0 and lost to Cyprus A 3-1 and Lebanon 3-2. In the tie, which resulted with Cyprus B and Jordan on 6 points, it was better because it had won the matches between them and thus took 2nd place behind Cyprus A, which had 3 wins and 1 loss.

In the singles, the Greek colors completed the second day of the games with four qualifiers in the quarterfinals of the singles. The three-day tournament also has doubles and ends today, Sunday.

BOGORIA OF GIONIS SECURED A PLACE IN THE EUROPE CUP

Also on the international stage, but at the team level the next news concerns Panagiotis Gionis’ Bogoria. For the 4th matchday of the 2nd group of the Champions League, the Polish team defeated Ostrov 3-0 in the Czech Republic. It thus ensured the 2nd place in the group and at least the European continuation through the Europe Cup. There remains the rematch with Neu Ulm in Germany a few days before Christmas (17/12), where they will exhaust their chances for 1st place and qualification to the final four of the Champions League (they had lost 3-2 in the first leg). Yesterday 01/12 Gionis in his only game defeated the Czech David Reitspis with 3-1 sets (11-6, 16-14, 7-11, 11-7). Also from the European Cups it became known that Sarises Florina withdrew their participation from the women’s Europe Trophy.
