Nadal: “Very likely to be my last year”

by

THE Rafael Nadal he continues to work towards his return to action, but it looks like 2024 will be the last year of his amazing career.

The 37-year-old Spaniard has published a video on social media, in which he states that it is very likely that he will retire, but leaves every possibility open.

What Rafa Nadal says in detail:

Many times I thought there was no point in continuing to play. It’s been many years, many hours of work that didn’t work, but I still think about what I said in the last press conference I gave: that I don’t deserve to end my career in a room giving a press conference. I want to close it in a different way. I fought and held on to hope to make this happen.

With doubts, with bad moments, very bad or better, but I believe that I had the right people around me, as throughout my career, my family, my team, friends… All of them helped me to be here today and have the option to return to racing. And also people’s desire to see me fight again has also had a significant impact on my daily life.

It is a fact that this is very likely to be my last year. There’s a chance it’s half time, there’s a chance it’s full time, there’s a chance I won’t be able to play in the tournaments I want. As things stand now, I am not in a position to answer these questions. I can only say that I will be back in the tournaments, that I continue to have it in my head that it makes sense that this will be my last year and I intend to enjoy the tournaments that way.

I don’t want to announce it yet, because in the end I don’t know what might happen and I have to allow myself not to be locked into something I’m going to say. I believe it will be, but I can’t be sure because I’ve been working hard to get back into racing. So if suddenly things change and my physical condition allows me to continue doing what I’m doing, then why put a date? There is no reason».
