Moana, the true queen in her sea of adventures – Origin Surf

I wanted that battery to last forever. The historic final between guest Moana Jones versus Carissa Moore at Pipeline was one of the most satisfying things I’ve seen in surfing to date.

On a magical Sunday of sorts, I watched something like a dream come true, in a far better way than I could ever have imagined.

First, because the women’s final at Pipeline was held between two very special athletes.

On one side Carissa with experience, power, world titles, an Olympic gold and a lot of foot surfing. On the other, Moana Jones Wong and the lightness of a wildcard. And wild, in this case, there is no better representative than her.

The truth is that the way Moana surfed, at ease, spontaneously and in total harmony with the Pipeline waves, makes Moana a true Queen in her Sea of Adventures.

Furthermore, the women’s final shows that representation is the key to anything in life. Watching a woman surfing those waves on a Sunday just for them is the possibility of attracting, in addition to new surfers, more women from countless backgrounds, professions, sports preferences, since it is enough to be a woman to identify with another woman.

So, one way or another, representation makes us feel capable. Even though we know that maybe never, in this life, we will be Moana, and we will surf like Moana.

Although certain places already know about the commercial potential that women have when it comes to sport, around here, it is almost certain that we still have a long way to go.

Finally, congratulations Moana, Carissa, Tyler, Bettylou, Brisa, Bronte, Caroline, Courtney, Gabriela, India, Isabella, Johanne, Lakey, Luana, Malia, Sally, Stephanie, Tatiana and all the women who are dedicated to what they love.
