THE Ergin Ataman is one of the most successful coaches in Europe, and especially his presence in Anatolou Efes it is remembered as historical, as it managed to conquer two consecutive Euroleagues with the City team.
One of the most important players he had in the Turkish club was Krunoslav Simon. The Croatian guard/forward was one of the “souls” of the team, and speaking to “Basketball Sphere” he had very nice words about working with Ataman.
In detail what he said:
“I’ve heard a lot. Before Efes he was in other teams, to which he was totally committed. He was present at every training session of Efes and “ran” the program, although I had heard that this was not always the case in his previous teams.
My experience with him is completely different. It has a certain character. If all goes well he is the best in the world. If things don’t go as planned, then he knows how to cause a problem. We scheduled trainings at 06:00 in the morning, to get used to training three times a day. We were together for 4.5 years, which included everything. From the best to the worst.
When Ergin Ataman came to Efes, we were in last place in the Euroleague. This was my first year on the team. I would have to say we clicked from day one. From the first second I saw that he trusted me.
I always played to the maximum both in weak games of the Turkish league and in the Euroleague and he knew how to recognize that. Really, from the first day I felt good with him. I was lucky that our partnership lasted 4.5 years. I can only say good things about him.”
