Many have wondered why the referee in Bradford’s FA Cup clash with Wolves showed the Joao Gomes a round red card! Of course, this was not the first time that a referee has used such round card. It was used by Dean Whitestone refereeing Wrexham’s clash with Sheffield United again in last season’s FA Cup.
As can be seen, the choice of the circular card has been made for two reasons. THE first for football players who may have trouble distinguishing some colors to distinguish it. So the round card can be perceived more easily because of its shape and not its color.
THE second reason it is more practical and concerns the referees. Who can distinguish it by its touch and its shape more easily in their pocket so as not to be confused with the yellow one.
Why did we see a circular red card in the FA Cup clash between Brentford and Wolves?
A circular card can be used by officials to help those who are visually impaired or color blind. This allows them to recognize the difference in shape rather than color!
