AEK: Historic scoring performances from Levia and Ponce

by

THE AEK is happy to have two centre-forwards who are… on fire and they proved it by finding the net in yesterday’s match as well game with Astera Tripoli (4-2).

THE Levi Garcia scoring the fourth goal of “Union” he has also scored in the last seven league matches he has played in and threatens one historical record. They own this with eight consecutive games where two AEK players scored goals, Kostas Nicolaidis (1967/68) and Demis Nicolaidis (1997/98), as well as Giorgos Sideris of Olympiakos in two seasons (1964/65, 1968/ 69).

His streak Levi Garcia it had started on November 12 and in the 3-0 win over Lamia at the Opap Arena. His injury followed and since his return he has scored non-stop, successively against Panetoliko on 18/12 (2-2), Panserraikos on 21/12 (2-2), Volos on 3/1 (3-0), Olympiakos on 7/1 (1-2) and Panathinaikos on 14/1 (2-2). He then missed two more Stoiximan Super League matches through injury and yesterday on his return he scored again to take his tally to 9 in the current league and 10 for the season (he had also scored against Ajax in Amsterdam for the Europa League).

THE Ezekiel Ponceon the other hand, since he was also credited with the first goal yesterday, i.e. he scored two against Asteras, reached seven goals in the last three games of AEK, as he had a hat-trick against Atromitos and two goals against OFI. The last Union player to score seven goals in three league games was Demis Nikolaidis 27 years ago. Then he had scored five goals on February 23, 1997 and in the 6-1 win over Kalamata in New Philadelphia, while he had scored once in the matches against Apollo Smyrnis (1-2) and Athenaikos (6-1) that followed.
