by

Maria Sakkari proved to be “waterproof”, who in the semi-final of Indian Wells against Coco Goff, who was interrupted three times (the second time for two hours), managed to overcome herself again and prevail with a 2-1 set against her American opponent , advancing to the finals of the California tournament.

The Greek champion reaches the final event for the tenth time, having 2 wins and 7 losses, and this will be the 4th final in a tournament of the WTA 1000 series, after the two in Indian Wells and the same number in Guadalajara, where last September she scored the biggest triumph in her career so far.

The opponent of the 28-year-old athlete will be the No1 of the world, Iga Sfiodek, who earlier easily beat Marta Kostiguk.

The two tennis players had also played in the 2022 final in the same event, while this will be their 6th meeting on the tour, with Sakkari leading in this head-to-head as well, with 3-2 wins.

The grand final will be held on Sunday (17/3, 20:00). Sakkari has already secured around 540,000 euros with her run in California so far and will leave the tournament with a minimum of 1,220,000 euros.
