Ethnikos Alexandroupolis managed to secure promotion to the A1 women’s table tennis for the first time in its history with the second privileged position, while XANTH took the first place in the playoffs and will be, for another year, in the big category.
Ethnikos came from third place in A2 and secured the rise on Sunday morning as soon as it doubled its victories. XANTH had finished last in A1, but it did so well in the playoffs that it prevailed in all three of its matches with 3-0 sets.
After many years, DAO Tavrou fell from A1, which has also celebrated Greek championships in the recent past. She was limited to the third place of the playoffs, while Athena Magoufanas was fourth and will be in A2 next season as well.
The first match of the extra procedure took place on Saturday and everything was judged in the two matches on Sunday. The games were not reserved for suspense, but the teams that theoretically had the first say confirmed the predictions and, thus, the first two places were covered by XANTH and Ethnikos, which had made a positive start. CHANTH won with 6 points, the team of Evros followed with 5, DAOT had 4 and Athena 3.
The second match was decisive. Ethnikos easily achieved the three consecutive victories against Athena and simply Fotini Traka suffered a 3-2 set defeat in the third game by Konstantina Panteri.
In the other match, XANTH had no difficulty against DAOT and with the final 3-0 set, the coverage of the two privileged positions by itself and Ethnikos was finalized on the one hand and the relegation of Taurus on the other.
CHANTH, coached by Eftychia Perri, lined up in Athens with Elena Sofra, Chrissi Fotiadou, Lemonia Gaidatzi and Stella Tzaridou.
Ethnikos relied on Vania Zaneva, Katerina Alexoudi, Fotini Traka and Panagiota Mourou, with the latter being in technical guidance throughout the year.
Sunday results:
In the 2nd match
Ethnikos Alexandroupolis-Athena Magoufanas 3-1
DAO Tavrou-HAN Thessaloniki 0-3
In the 3rd race
CHANTH-Ethnikos 3-0
Athena Magoufanas-DAOT 0-3
