Terim: ‘The fans are right about the boos – I hope we get the Cup and talk about everything’

by

His press conference was full of interesting quips Fatih Terim after the new, damning, defeat of Panathinaikos by Aris in Leoforos, with which the “clover” was put out of contention for the title.

The Turkish coach gave answers regarding the causes of the collapse of his team, talked about the management of the roster and the absences of specific players, while he also spoke about disapprovals to his face, emphasizing that they are justified, but do not affect his work.

In fact, Fatih Terim, “invited” the journalists after the end of the season in Koropi in order to discuss all the issues and make the… fund of the season!

In detail what the Turkish coach said at the press conference:

What happened and Panathinaikos collapsed in the last games: “In the game we want to play, nothing has changed. At home in three games, we conceded too many early goals and found ourselves behind in the score. As with AEK, PAOK, Aris, we concede goals in the first few minutes. In the playoffs it’s not the easiest thing to turn around and change that. Nevertheless, today after the goal we conceded, we had to react better. In the first half we didn’t manage to do that. We made a change in our game, player changes, but unfortunately we couldn’t change it. Especially in the half when we got the result that was convenient for us from PAOK-AEK, I thought we could handle it better, but unfortunately we couldn’t change it. I won’t say it happened this or that. If you want to win the championship you have to be able to handle these situations. Unfortunately we couldn’t today. In critical moments we have to react to it, otherwise we cannot get the result we want.”

For the management of the material and if it thinks it has become the best: “After any match, after any loss, I have never said anything about my players. Let’s finish the championship, once the Cup final is over and the season is over, we will say enough things. I will tell you my thoughts. I said it the first day I came, we will all play together. There is no player I didn’t give a chance to. I believe in something, in good times and in bad times, whether you win or lose, it is very important that we all feel the same way. The coaches, the players, the fans, must think the same, have the same goal. Let’s have each other. The most important thing I always try to do is to be fair to everyone and as long as it comes through my hands, that’s what I do. But whenever the team and mission come out, some wonder why they’re out. Surely there is a reason if someone is not on the mission.

Example, Bart (Schenkefeld) 1.5 months can’t train with us. I couldn’t get him to play. What I said on the first day is still true. Once we finish, maybe one day in Koropi, we can have a meeting and you can ask whatever you want. But I haven’t said anything about my players after any match and I’m not going to say anything today. I experienced something I have never experienced in my life when I went to the interview (including the boos). But in life there is everything. My teams have always had a character, they never give up, they fight until the last second. And that’s what I’m trying to do here. You will see it. Those types of teams are the biggest teams and that’s what I always try to do. Even when you lose the fans will support you if they see you trying until the last second.”

If he considers the disapproval of the world justified: “Of course they are right. I came out at a point where the race was over, so I took it all on myself. No matter how old you are, you never know what’s going to happen, so I experienced that too. Especially when you lose and at halftime comes the result you expect from the other match (i.e. PAOK-AEK) and you have the motivation to do what you want and you don’t do it, it makes sense. I also learned something in my life.

If he has thought that the final of the Cup can also decide the European exit of Panathinaikos: Sure. We may not get any of it. A coach always thinks about these things. My team and I always work for all eventualities. Winning the Cup is important, but for me my goal was the championship. I believe that being champion is more important than the Cup. It was in our hands 2-3 times to take the championship, but unfortunately we could not use it. And football is like that. A week ago we were the only one who could get both and now we might be able to get one and that’s the truth. And we are here to see the truths.”

For disapprovals, even if they are a “burden” for the continuation of the team: “I am very sad but it does not affect my work. We will prepare properly for the Cup final. I hope that after the final, when we will have won the Cup, I will be waiting for you in Koropi to discuss everything. »
