THE Ergin Ataman is one of the most successful coaches in Europe, as he reached three this year Euroleaguesafter the cup he won with Panathinaikos.
Before distinguishing himself in the top European competition, the Turkish coach spent a very successful five years at Galatasaraywith which he won the championship 2013 and the Eurocup 2016.
One of the protagonists of “chim bom” in those years was then o Carlos Arroyowho spoke to Turkish Eurohoops about him Ataman and he idolized him, describing in very beautiful words his collaboration with the current coach of Panathinaikos.

“I still talk to him today. I congratulate him on what he has done and the games he is winning. He taught me a lot about how to play in Europe and took me up a level. We have been through many hardships together. Our families are quite close and I am especially happy for him.”
On the way Ataman trains: “He’s very demanding and because of that side of him, there are times you get frustrated during the year. However, at the end of the day when you win, you understand everything. He knows and understands the game very well, pushes the guards to their best and allows them to showcase their talent to the fullest.
This is his perspective on the game. It’s the Goat! He is a three-time European Champion, he has this magic wand. You have to applaud him and show him respect. The respect he deserves. He knows exactly how to push a player to be better and bring out his true self on the court. He did exactly the same with Kostas Slukas and Kendrick Nunn. It brought out the best in them.
Ergin is one of those coaches who will not allow the team to deviate from what he has planned and get out of the plan. I personally want to give a lot of credit to Nan because he adapted very well to the team and quickly in this first year in Europe.
Even though it was his first year, he really did a really good job. It may take a long time for players coming from the NBA to understand and adapt to European conditions. Most of the time this is very difficult to do in such a short time. In the NBA, basketball is based more on one-on-one, in Europe this is not the case.”
