The first step towards winning the 18th championship in their history was taken early in the morning by the Celtics, who defeated the Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of the finals NBA.
Boston was superior throughout the contest against Dallas, who had only Luka Doncic have a good night among the five Greens who were in double figures in scoring. The Celtics led by +29 in the second period, with the Mavs getting as close as -8 in the third quarter, but not threatening any more.
The leading scorer for the home team was Jaylen Brown, who had 22 points and 6 rebounds, while Kristaps Porzingis returned from his injury and did it emphatically, scoring 20 points on 8/13 shooting and had 6 rebounds.
Derrick White finished with 15 points for Boston, which led by as many as 29 points in the first half and got off to a strong start with 16 three-pointers.
Luka Doncic finished with 30 points (on 12/26 shooting from the field), while PJ Washington added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Kyrie Irving, for his part, finished with 12 points, while every time he caught the ball, he heard from the stands, since he had previously played with the shamrock on his chest.
