Sarikopoulos: “Grateful and proud of my career”

by

Proud and grateful for what he experienced in basketball, he said Zisis Sarikopouloswho decided to retire and takes over general manager duties at Iraklis. The 35-year-old center played for Olympiakos, AEK, Maroussi, Panionio, PAOK, Karditsa, Promethea, Tsmoky Minsk and Al Sand. At the same time, he won five medals with the small national teams, including two golds, in 2008 with the Junior National Team in Ilia and in 2009 with the Young Men’s Team in Rhodes.

And sometimes that moment comes when you never imagine it will come, when you never think about it and it seems far away.

But it has arrived, it is NOW here.

14 seasons as a professional at the highest level.

3 major surgeries, the first at 14 and since then every 8 years.

I couldn’t be more GRATEFUL.

Drawing a line today, I am proud: of the journey, of the achievements, of the successes and failures.

But above all for the lifelong relationships I created.

I leave the active action full, feeling better than ever, happy for what I have offered to the sport that I have loved since I was 7 years old, that I served and will continue to serve from another position now.

To everyone I have worked with, teammates, coaches, staff, a big thank you for making me a better player and above all a better person.

Finally, to my family who pushed me towards sports and gave me this gift, thank you for EVERYTHING. Always by my side, in good times and in bad, care for me and support me.

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened. THANK YOU ALL.
