Great match for the first matchday of the 3rd group of Euro 2024!

The finalist of the previous tournament and one of the big favourites, England faces in the impressive home of Schalke, full of talent Serbia (22:00, ΕΟ-1, sport-fm.gr, bwinSPORT FM) in the second scheduled match of the 3rd group.

Both teams will know the result of the other group match between Slovenia and Denmark, which will give them extra motivation in the premiere.

Official hosts Serbia are returning to the Euros, 24 years after their last appearance, and want to show a face worthy of the talent of their footballers by reaching the knockout stages, something they failed to achieve even at the World Cup in Qatar, where they found themselves in group with Brazil, Cameroon and Switzerland.

Their presence in the qualifiers, however, convinced them they can go far by finishing 2nd in their group behind Hungary. This will be the sixth time he will compete in the Euros and the first as Serbia, having played as Yugoslavia in 1960, 1968, 1976 and 1984, and in 2000 as Serbia-Montenegro.

On the bench an important personality of the country’s football. The 59-year-old, Dragan Stojkovic, who has chosen the right “materials” to help his team make, finally a remarkable course.

On the other side, the finalist of the previous Euro and big favorite of this year’s tournament, England!

Gareth Southgate’s “lions” traveled to Germany with the aim of winning the trophy for the first time in their history and breaking a “curse” that has lasted since 1966, when they had won the World Cup.

Youth, talent, will and courage are the ingredients that England will invest in in order to… drink water in their 11th Euro participation. After all, her thirst is indisputable and it was imprinted on the grass during the qualifiers.

Placed in the third group, it had opponents Italy, Ukraine, Skopje and Malta. Her harvest could even be described as… scary!

20 points with six wins and just two draws, and a goal scoring record of 22-4.

Of course, this year’s Euro is also a big “bet” for Gareth Southgate, who with players like Kane, Bellingham, Walker and Alexander-Arnold wants to “recover” the failures of the past.

The big absentees from the England side are the long-time main stopper, Harry Maguire, and Jack Grealish, who was “cut” from the mission.

The pre-history of this particular couple is also extremely interesting, as their last meeting takes place in the distant 1989, when in a friendly match England prevailed 2-1, while in 1987 in the qualifiers of the European championship, the “three lions” had counted two victories in equal numbers match.
