Slovenia-Serbia: Key match with seven “Greeks”

by

The daily action at Euro 2024 continues, with the Slovenia to face her Serbia (16:00, ERT1, sport-fm.gr, News Bulletin 247) at the “Allianz Arena” for the second matchday of the competition’s groups, in a key match for the continuation of the two teams.

It is, of course, worth mentioning that on the rosters of the two teams there are a total of seven players who belong to Greek teams. The reason for them Andraz Sporar (Panathinaikos), Adam Cerin (Panathinaikos), Benjamin Verbic (Panathinaikos), Nemanja Maksimovic (Panathinaikos), Andrija Zivkovic (PAOK), Mijat Gacinovic (AEK) and Filip Mladenovic (Panathinaikos).

THE Slovenia, initially, positively started its obligations in the second Euro of its history. Matias Keck’s team managed to draw (1-1) against the much more qualified and experienced Denmarkeven though he fell behind early on in the score, showing that he didn’t come to the Euro just for the… participation.

The matchup against (also superior in units) Serbia it is an opportunity for the Slovenians, as they will reach them with three points four points and they will become favorites for a place in the knockouts, even as the best third. A defeat, however, will logically mean elimination, since the very difficult match against them follows England.

On the other hand, Serbia started the tournament with a loss, but within schedule, after coming up against one of the big favorites, the England. The Serbsin fact, they showed quite a competitive face and put a lot of pressure on the “Three Lions”, who were content with a 1-0 victory and did not deserve anything more based on the image.

For her Serbia, this match is the most crucial of the group. In case of victory, it matters a lot possible candidacy for qualification to the next phase, since the match with Denmark follows for this, from which he has nothing to fear. A defeat, however, at the “hands” of the theoretically weaker team in the group, could prove “fatal” for his team Dragan Stojkovic.

It is worth noting that the Philip Kostic, injured in the first match, will miss the entire tournament for Serbia. Therefore, the most likely scenario is o Filip Mladenovic to take his place in the basic formation and cover the entire left side.

Possible lineups:

Slovenia (Matias Kek, 4-4-2): Oblak, Janza, Bigol, Drkusic, Karnicnik – Mlakar, Elsnik, Cerin, Stojanovic – Cesko, Sporar.

Serbia (Dragan Stojkovic, 3-4-3): Rajkovic, Velikovic, Milenkovic, Pavlovic – Zivkovic, Lukic, Gudely, Mladenovic – Milinkovic-Savic, Vlahovic, Mitrovic.
