Lucescu: “I hate games after Europe, we did not have a clear mind”

by

Razvan Lucescu stood in the mentality of PAOK after qualifying for the “16” of the Europa Conference League, after the draw with Ionikos.

«I really hate this kind of games, two days after games for Europe. We did not have a clear mind. Most of the players were playing on Thursday and we lacked a clear mind in the final effort. We entered a tempo very early and a kind of game that did not suit us. A very direct game that suited Ionikos better. We had to control the game better. In the second half, apart from the goal we conceded, I do not remember anything else. It was a confusing game, we fought but without substantial result, without inspiration in the offensive third».

For the role played by the first minute phase: “I can not be 100% sure, but it might have been a more open game and we found more open spaces. Hypothetically if we had scored another goal in the first half, we would have been 2-0 and it would have been a completely different game. Taking everything into account, it was a fair result».

To be continued: “We are in a transitional period. We are the team that is first in the second round with the most points. We are at 16 in Europe and in a situation where our mentality plays an important role. I’m curious to see more teams do just as well in the same situation as us. With so many games, the most points in the second round, injuries, fatigue but also COVID which is also in the equation».
