H Germany failed to go far in the host Euros after losing 2-1 to Spain thanks to a goal from Mikel Merino in the 120th minute.
After the match, Julian Nagelsmann he was inconsolable and expressed his opinion that his team did not deserve to be eliminated from the competition in this way. At the same time, he deified him Toni Krooswho played his last game.
In detail what he said:
To block: “Congratulations to Spain for qualifying for the semi-finals. The match was very open in the first half. We were better in the second and from 60′ onwards we were clearly the better team. We deserved the equalizer in the final.
We conceded the second goal in the opponents’ last chance. Unfortunately we couldn’t apply much pressure from the ends. I told the players they didn’t deserve to be banned. We all miss our families, but no one wanted to leave the event.
From the beginning of the last six weeks, there was a good atmosphere in the group. We gave everything to get the win. Every player, whether they were a starter or a substitute, gave everything and it hurts us to be disqualified.”
On the end of Kroos’ career: “It is impossible to overestimate Toni’s career, he is probably unique in German history and certainly one of the country’s greatest players.
Everyone knows about his success but not everyone knows about his character. He spoke to the team at a difficult time for him, personally. He always sees himself as part of a group.”
