Responding to yesterday’s announcement of the SEF administration, which blamed the track and field federation for the poor condition of the track in the last Panhellenic Championship, SEGAS emphasizes that it is responsible only for the placement of the routes and not for their maintenance, as they belong at SEF. At the same time, the federation leaves tips to the administration of the Stadium for the limited availability of SEF for track and field competitions, but also to the State for the timeless problems that have made the indoor stadium of Paiania inactive.
It is recalled that the issue of the poor condition of the playing field at SEF came to the surface with the statements made to ERT by Miltos Tentoglou on Sunday (27/2), after his participation in the Panhellenic Indoor Championship.
The announcement of SEGAS:
«In response to what is mentioned in the Press Release that was posted on Monday, February 28, 2022, on the official website of the Peace and Friendship Stadium and in order to restore the truth, we would like to clarify the following:
Indeed, SEF from 2012 onwards “hosts” all the Indoor Track events of our Federation, due to the known problems of the Indoor Stadium of Paiania, in which no government has so far managed to provide solutions and which have plagued for many years athletics family.
We will agree that SEF is not intended to be exclusively a Track and Field Stadium, but to “beg” for dates to organize our events, in the only Stadium that currently exists for Indoor Track and Field events in our country, we do not even refer to training, this definitely goes beyond the limits.
In recent years, SEGAS, due to the weakness of SEF (lack of staff due to retirement), undertakes at its own expense (with a not insignificant amount) and the installation of track routes, in collaboration with a contractor nominated by SEF and always with supervision of the experienced staff of the Stadium. Now from “I take the position” to “I own the track routes”, there is no relation and it is certainly an arbitrary interpretation of people who do not have full knowledge of the facts. We really wonder if before the posting of the SF the Stadium Administration addressed the SEF employees, who know better than anyone about what belongs and what does not belong to SEF, to inform them.
For information, we would like to mention that SEF has the sole responsibility for the storage, maintenance and the necessary repairs of the racetracks in order to make them functional and safe for the organization of races. Besides, it is not accidental that any repairs or repairs that have been carried out so far in the installation of the Athletics have been covered by the SEF.
What was said by our Champion (s.s. Milto Tentoglou), is known to everyone, even to the Administration and the employees of SEF, but trying to distort the reality, transferring the responsibilities to other people, is not the correct treatment of the existing problem.
SEGAS is convinced that all problems are solved only through cooperation and not by creating rivalries and wants to believe that the SEF Administration really “listens carefully to the requests of the athletes and will provide solutions”, as stated in the Press Release and as it has an obligation “.
