The family of Panathinaikos and Greek football became poorer, with him Dimitris Theofanis to pass away at the age of 91.
“Loris” competed for nine years in the “greens” – celebrating the conquest of five championships – while he then worked mainly in the academy of Panathinaikos but also as a talent scout for the club, while in six matches he was also the coach of the “clover”.
The announcement of PAE Panathinaikos:
PAE Panathinaikos expresses its sadness for the loss of everyone’s beloved Dimitris (“Loris”) Theofanis, who passed away at the age of 91.
The deceased was born in 1933 in Nafpaktos and joined Panathinaikos in 1956. He played in Trifylli from 1956 to 1965, as a key member of the Greens’ offensive line. He won five championships, including the undefeated championship in the 1963-64 season. In total he recorded 110 appearances in the First National team and more than 150 with the clover on his chest in all competitions.
The beloved “Loris” stayed at Panathinaikos for many years as a coach, mainly in the academy, while at times he also worked as a talent scout for the team. He sat twice on the bench of Trifyllio’s first team, the first for four games in the finale of the 1974-75 season as a duo with Vangelis Panakis and the second for two games in the 1978-79 season together with Takis Papoulidis.
We express our deepest condolences to his family.
