by

THE president of the EEC, Vangelis Liolios, with his announcement he welcomed the decision of the deputy minister, Yiannis Vroutsis, for equal participation of the two parties in the Federations’ Boards, announcing the six women he considers ideal for the next Board of Directors. It is recalled that the senior elections have been set for September 15 and the new law obliges the federations to have at least 33.3% representation from both sexes.

What Vangelis Liolios said in detail:

“I welcome the decision of the Minister of Sports who, in the framework of the equal participation of both sexes in the Federations’ Administrations, legislated the mandatory participation of at least 33%. Accordingly, my proposal to the Unions for the September 15th elections regarding the women I would like you to honor with your vote as I believe they have the disposition, ability and necessary experience, while at the same time signaling the direction and emphasis of the EEC in the coming years towards specific pillars of development are the following:

1) Strengthening the role of women through the expertise of her participation in the Women’s Committee in Fiba Europe and practical support to the FIBA pillar “Women in Basketball” for 2023-2027. Emphasis on the dual career of sportsmen and women with simultaneous university education and active involvement in sports. The most suitable representative who has demonstrated this in practice with her history and who continues to do so is the International athlete and first elected woman to the EEC Board of Directors, Mrs. Anni Kostaninidou.

2) Emphasis on girls’ development program and support of local Associations. The most suitable candidate who signals the direction of the EEC towards this pillar is the former athlete and for many years an important factor both at the level of Associations and at the level of the Union, Mrs. Elisavet Hatziaggeli – Fasoura (Member of the Board and in the executive position of Treasurer at ESKA)

3) Emphasis on the Women’s National Teams with the Women’s National Team as a frontispiece. The most suitable candidate that signals the interest of the EEC in this direction is the former captain of the National women’s team and Olympic champion, Mrs. Sofia Kligopoulou.

4) Emphasis on extroversion and the International dimension of women’s basketball. The most suitable representative is the former Olympic athlete of the National Women’s team and ambassador of the NBA in Europe, Mrs. Anastasia Kostaki.

5) Emphasis on school sports and preschool age (through the connection of Fan Basket, Mini Basket and 3X3 schools with school sports), as well as social actions of sports aimed at equality, inclusion and the elimination of gender-based violence and any form of violence in sport. The most suitable candidate who signals the central role that such actions will have in all Unions is the President of the General Assembly of Pallini and Deputy Mayor of Education, Preschool Age and Family of the Municipality of Pallini, the Lawyer Ms. Triantafyllia Daskalaki.

6) Emphasis on the Administrative organization and the role of women in the Management of large Organizations as well as in the management of sports facilities. The candidate who shows the importance of this dimension is the first alternate female Councilor of the EEC in the previous elections and for a number of years Manager of the Administrative sector in large Public Organizations as well as a member of the Administration of sports facilities, Mrs. Nikolitsa Kostopoulou.

These prominent personalities who with ethics, respect and distinction excel each one in their field and mark the 6 pillars of basketball development, with an emphasis on women’s basketball in the next 4 years of the EEC, I suggest to all Unions to support them with their vote in the upcoming EEC elections of September 15″.
